The 2011 winner of the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature has been announced. The winner is Thanhha Lai for Inside Out & Back Again.
Written for grades 4-8, the book uses a series of poems to tell the story of  Hà, a ten-year-old girl, who chronicles the life-changing year of 1975. Hà,  her mother and  brothers flee Vietnam at the end of the war and finally settle in Alabama, facing the struggles of being refugees in a new country.
