School Library Journal’s third annual competition  Battle of the Kids’ Books starts today. The judges are 15 children’s book authors including R.L. Stine, Richard Peck, Grace Lin, Pete Hautman, Karen Cushman, and Patricia Reilly Giff. The battle focuses on 16 of the best books of the year. The books compete against each other in different matches until the final best book is selected.
This would be a fun reading activity in your school using the Battle of the Kids’ Books list or your own list.

These are the books scheduled in the first round.

Penguin is sponsoring a poster contest featuring The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle based on a theme from the book such as changing seasons or metamorphosis. The contest ends on March 31, 2011.  Official rules
The Kohl’s Cares for Kids promotion at your local Kohl’s is currently featuring books and plush animals for some of Eric Carle’s titles including The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Other books include The Grouchy Ladybug, The Mixed-Up Chameleon, and The Foolish Tortoise.
